ACLU, Concerned Citizens Meet, Town Officials Say Allegations Have No Merit As many as seven different organizations were represented at a meeting sponsored by the Concerned Citizens of Flora Thursday, April 24 in Flora. The discussion centered on efforts to better organize and combat alleged racial profiling by law enforcement in Madison County.
Allegations once again arose regarding the Town of Flora. However, town officials say that their performance with respect to law enforcement and judicial conduct is laid out in state law, and strictly followed.
Representatives of the Mississippi ACLU, the National ACLU’s Campaign Against Racial Profiling, Canton Concerned Citizens, and the NAACP were in attendance at the Town and Country Place Restaurant on Highway 22. Other groups; the Mississippi’s Immigrant Rights Alliance, workplace rights group MPOWER, and Catholic Charities, were also represented.
